Based on interviews with captured senior Iraqi military and political leaders and hundreds of thousands of official Iraqi documents, Foreign Affairs has published much of the two-year project’s findings that will change our “understanding of the war from the ground up,†according to the publication. The inner-workings of the Iraq regime and its, frankly, lunatic leader are fascinating. According to the reports, Saddam Hussein was confident that the United States would not attack and if it did it would be defeated by his forces. According to Foreign Affairs, this is partly why Saddam did not burn his oil fields or unleash the damns and flood the lowlands. Anyway, I’ve thumbed through it and it will be a vital historical document for future scholarship.
