John - As you point out at the time political parties were vastly different then they are today. Jefferson's party was in opposition to the Federalist party. Madison founded it in Philadelphia as the Republican party. He and Jefferson then team up and reach out to other political leaders to expand the influence of the party. During that period there were various names for the party one of which was Republican. However, this is NOT the forerunner of the Republican party of today which was created in 1854 from parts of the Whig party.

They had a hit piece on Thomas Jefferson too. It stated he was a republican and that he didn’t believe in God. He founded the Democrat party and republicans weren’t around until the 1850’s. How can they get this wrong?

I watched a show on history channel that blatantly said the Ben Franken doesn’t believe in God. They are wrong he did and I quote "[I believe] That there is one God, who made all things.
That he governs the world by his providence.
That he ought to be worshiped by adoration, prayer, and thanksgiving.
But that the most acceptable service of God is doing good to man.
That the soul is immortal.
And that God will certainly reward virtue and punish vice, either here or hereafter." $#@! THE HISTORY CHANNEL. Do you own research. ALL OF THE FOUNDING FATHERS LOVED GOD and the founding fathers believed in God=love and individual rights of freedom that GOD GAVE US (AMERICANS)….and humans in general.

Isn't this like Jesse James? Basically a criminal, but in a situation where he's "one of us vs. them?"
